What a summer

Summer is well and truly over as I write this snuggled under duvet and cover wishing I’d put the heating on earlier. Jessica is growing up fast and furious.  She still amazes me every day and I am so fortunate to know her.

At the start of July I tried potty training as she was showing all the signs but alas she was not ready and after three days I stopped. I still sat her on the toilet before bath and talked about pee-ing and poo-ing but she went back to nappies and all was well. Then near the end of the summer, about the start of August little miss decided one Sunday morning that she was wearing pants!! I did say that she would need to tell me when she needed to pee and she said ok! And that by and large has been that! She is now daytime trained in the art of using the toilet. No potty for Jess. Nursery are amazed and ever so happy. I do not miss washing nappies and every other morning she is dry too so I’m sure nighttime isn’t too far behind.

Her vocabulary and language skills have just sky rocketed over the summer!! Sentences, words, tone and texture are all there with her speech. She likes me to ‘look!’ And ‘show me’ she also has called me ‘mother’ on occasion when I was taking too long to react to her call.

Bedtime was stressful over the summer but I think we have cracked it now, I changed the routine a we bit and it works 99% of the time.. Those nights when she doesn’t sleep I take as nights when she just needs me and I’m not gonna fight it and I’m gonna give her me.

Night time nappies

Tonight is a big night. Jess is asleep wearing a cloth nappy. EEK

So far she has been sleeping in pampers baby dry and she’s been grand with them. no leaks, no rash, no probs, however I want to have her in cloth full time.  I’ve been dubious about this as she usually sleeps for 12-13 hours a night and i wasn’t sure that cloth would last that long, however I’ve heard great things on some Facebook groups about Tots Bots Bamboozles and wrap.  They were half price new in Tesco so we have five and i love them – they are so soft and colorful.  Fingers crossed she will be okay and not wake up sodden and upset.

I love having her in cloth all the time. We use Tots Bots and Bumgenius and with this roasting weather she has been wearing only a nappy and a t-shirt.  I also use cheeky wipes cloth wipes full time too and love them.  I still can’t explain why i’ve gone down this route.  I think it is to do with the amount of waste.  I am super happy that Jess isn’t contributing to landfill.  I love that i know what is next to her skin and so far its worked as we have had no nappy rash at all.  🙂

First day for cloth…

Well today is the first day we are wearing cloth nappies. To start with its a pink bumgenius all in one. I’m hoping they don’t leak- leakage is my biggest concern. They seem to fit her okay. Time will tell.

Everything else is ok. Feeding is better but I’m still battling thrush and trying to heal my traumatised nips. She is great!! Getting ready for Christmas. It should be fun. 🙂

Bump goes a-paddling.

Well today I enjoyed some fun in the sun with my nieces. Mum and dad have a 8foot circular paddling pool and I went a-paddling. It was great being in the water, cool and weightless. I’m definitely going swimming next week. I’m not sure whether to wait till I’ve seen physio for my pelvic girdle pain or just to go for it. Take it easy and front crawl only. I guess I’ll see whether I’m in pain or not tomorrow.

The other night I had a crazy dream about nappies, which makes sense as I was discussing cloth nappies all day. The weird thing was the dream also had Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore in it. I don’t know what they were doing, usually I remember dreams vividly but I think I was too confused by those two! I wonder why they appeared in my dream…

So yes, cloth nappies are a go-go for little peanut. I’ve had a whole host gifted to me so today I washed them and line dried them. All set and ready to go. I don’t know why I’m so keen to use cloth nappies. I wouldn’t describe myself as an Eco warrior. Actually think its a control thing. I like to know what I’m putting on my babies skin. With disposables you have no idea what chemicals and mad made fibres are being used, with cloth nappies I know how they are washed etc. I think thats my reasons. 🙂 I really hope it works.

Peanut (nickname for my bump) didnt’t seem to be up nor down nor round about by the water today. I thought it’d protest or kick or something but nope, nothing from it at all. Just stuck to peanuts usual schedule- lots of movement in the morning, a wee half hour of crazy around 2pm then a whole host of gymnastics in the evening. Usually around 8.30-9pm. I could set my clock by these movements. Love it!!
